Our MES 4th graders are so thankful that they spent time on the Roskopf Farm on Wednesday for Farm-City Day hosted by the Dodge County Farm Bureau! Students participated in demonstrations learning about farm machinery, cows, pigs, chickens, sheep, crops, and everything else imaginable about the career of farming and agriculture. 7th graders in ELA immersed themselves in the 1960’s world of “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton. They read the book, completed activities while reading, and created a group biography project on an Outsiders character. They wrapped up the unit by watching the movie, dressing in character, and enjoying foods mentioned in the book (bologna sandwiches, cola, popcorn, chocolate cake, brownies, and ice cream!). Ms. Newville’s 7th graders participated in a "roller coaster" lab earlier this week. Students were challenged to develop a model to describe that when the arrangements of objects interacting at a distance changes, different amounts of potential energy are stored in the system. Learning goals? To be able to explain the difference between potential and kinetic energy, and to be able to predict the amount of energy in a system with height and mass.
