Next Edition is Mayville’s competitive Jr Show Choir!
This group consists of 42 singers and dancers in 5th-8th grade. The students in this activity are very dedicated to their craft. Rehearsals for their competitive season begin in the summer, where they spend three weeks learning their show. Then they continue to prepare for their competitive season by rehearsing twice a week beginning in October.
This year, the group will be performing selections from 13: The Musical. This show presents the struggles of becoming a teenager, from navigating friendships to middle school crushes. Songs include Thirteen (Soloists: Hayley S., Makayla N., Aubrey F.), Opportunity (Solo: Reegan A.), Bad Bad News (Soloist: Whitney P.), A Little More Homework (Soloists: Scarlett B.), and Brand New You.
The group competed at New London Singstock Festival earlier this month, where they took home 2nd place and a spirit award. Up next? Sauk Prairie, Fort Atkinson, and the Hartford Schauer Center this season!
Next Edition is blessed to have multiple people on their creative team. Under the direction of Gabriela Twigg, this group is supported by several dedicated Mayville music students. This year, the show was choreographed by Sidney D. (Junior), Tristin D. (Junior), and Serenity M. (Senior) with assistants including Alex R. (Sophomore) and Olivia S. (Sophomore).
Next Edition is also very fortunate to be accompanied by a high school show band directed by J.D. Cooney. The 14 member ensemble travels with the jr show choir to competitions giving them a dynamic presence on stage. This multi-faceted group of individuals has helped the show choir grow and inspire this younger generation of performers.
One cannot forget how the support from family, friends, and the Mayville community have affected the success of this program. Next Edition would like to thank you for your unwavering enthusiasm for Mayville’s young musicians. The future is bright!
