2026 Katie Award Presentation

Each year, the Mayville Athletic Booster Club presents the “Katie Award” in memory of Katie Schwichtenberg to honor exceptional support of Mayville Athletics. The 2026 recipient of the Katie Award is Brian Thom.

Brian graduated from Hustisford High School in 1986, where he competed in football, basketball, wrestling and baseball, earning All-Conference honors in baseball and football, and qualifying for individual state wrestling in 1985. After high school, Brian dedicated his time to service in the Wisconsin Corrections system and enjoyed his free time supporting his oldest daughter, Nicole, who attended Lakeside Lutheran High School.

Brian married his wife Tracy in 1996, and they raised their children, Andrew and Aubrey, in the City of Mayville. Since 2009, Brian has consistently given his time and leadership to athletics in our community. What began with volunteering as a youth coach grew into a remarkable record of service spanning 17 years. Throughout this time, Brian has enthusiastically filled whatever role he could when called upon.

From 2009 through 2018, Brian served as a youth baseball coach across multiple levels, from coach pitch to B-Ball, A-Ball, and Pony. He also served as a board member, giving his time not only to the athletes on the field but to the organization behind the program. Brian continued that commitment at the high school level, serving as a volunteer assistant with baseball from 2015–2020 and as a volunteer football statistician from 2021–2024. Additionally, Brian volunteered with youth football, worked with St. John’s volleyball, served as a basketball statistician, basketball and baseball official, track and field event worker, and varsity game manager.

Perhaps the strongest example of Brian’s impact has come through his involvement with high school volleyball from 2023 to present day.  In addition to being a volunteer coach, Brian designed and initiated the transformation of this football field into an outdoor volleyball court, helping make possible what became the first sanctioned outdoor volleyball match in Wisconsin. This accomplishment alone captures what has distinguished Brian’s service throughout the years: his initiative, resourcefulness and leadership.

Brian Thom’s commitment to Mayville athletics is measured not simply in years of service, but in the countless athletes, teams, coaches and programs he has supported throughout the years.

Congratulations, Brian!
