The Special Education Department of Mayville works with students who have been identified as students with special needs in a way that addresses individual differences. Teachers and para-professionals work to bridge the educational gap, practice self-advocacy, rehearse social skills, and apply communication skills. Additional educational services such as accommodations, modifications, and interventions are provided through the resource rooms, small-group instruction, specifically adapted courses, assistive technology, community experiences, and other services developed in the Individualized Education Program. At the high school level, there is an emphasis on transitioning into the workforce, community, and post-secondary education.
Common special needs include specific learning disabilities, communication disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, physical disabilities, and developmental disabilities.
