Parent 1:1 Resources
Students are issued a chromebook at the start of their freshman year or upon enrollment in the district.
The computer will remain the property of the School District of Mayville until graduation or withdrawal from our district.
A damage policy is in place for non-warranty repairs. There is a maximum $50 fee for any repairs not covered by warranty. If a student breaks the screen, the computer would be turned in with a $50 payment, the student will be given a loaner to use while theirs is being repaired. If the repair is under $50 then you will only be charged for the cost of the repair. Upon Graduation - devices are checked for damage - if damage is found repair costs will need to be paid to be able to walk in graduation ceremony.
Parents should know that computers may be inspected from time to time to ensure appropriate use. Parents should also be aware that information and files stored on the computer should not be considered private. To help reduce inappropriate use, parents and students will be required to sign a Responsibilities Contract before being issued a computer.
Parents have the authority to restrict the use of the computer outside the school grounds. Parents may wish to consider:
requiring your teen to use the computer in family areas and not their bedroom
restricting the use of the computer to certain times of the evening or weekend
encouraging your teen to share the documents and contents of the computers with you
Parents do not need computer skills to help teens learn through their computer. Interest and encouragement far outweigh computer literacy. Remind your teen to charge the computer overnight to ensure it is ready for each school day. Parents should feel free to contact the school about any issues that may arise.
In school, students will be protected from offensive material by a filter system. The district has installed a Palo Alto system, this filter system may also work outside the school building. Please remember filters are not always 100% effective.
Remind your teens to store the computer in a protective cover. They should not put heavy items on top of the computer in their backpack or locker as the screen may crack.
Parents and students should ask the school for help if the leased computer needs repairs. You must not try to repair hardware items yourself as this may void the warranty. If you believe someone has damaged the computer on purpose report it to the school as soon as possible. You may also need to report it to the police.
