Show Choir Band

The show choir band is a voluntary ensemble that consists of any instrumentation. This ensemble is competitive and in sync with the vocal show choir.

This ensemble meets after school 2-3 days a week from November-February in addition to several Saturday rehearsals and competitions. Students in a winter sport/activity should strongly consider choosing one or the other, though we can accommodate any students interested. To enroll, contact Mr. Cooney.

Jazz Band

The jazz band is a voluntary ensemble that consists of trumpets, trombone/euphonium, all saxophones, piano, bass, guitar, and drums. All other instruments are welcome, but should consider taking up a traditional jazz instrument for the purpose of this ensemble.

This ensemble meets whenever the students that are enrolled have common availability. Traditionally, that includes cardinal time (HS Resource Period) and occasionally after/before school. To enroll, contact Mr. Cooney.

Pit Orchestra

The pit orchestra is a voluntary ensemble that consists of whatever instrumentation is required for the selected musical production that year. Most parts can be adapted to fit any students interested, but shows at times simply have no wind instrument parts. Necessary instrumentation is announced upon selecting the production.

This ensemble meets 3-4 days a week after school for approximately 7 weeks between October and November and includes 4-5 shows for the public and other audiences. To enroll, contact Mr. Cooney.

Cardinal Singers

Cardinal Singers is MHS’s Competitive Show Choir. It is an after-school activity that meets on Mondays during the Fall Athletic Season, then moving to 3 days a week throughout the competition season. Competition Season is from January through early March. A four week camp that runs as part of the summer school program kicks off this entire process to speed up singing, performing, and dancing skills. Check out our 2024-25 Calendar of Events below!

To join Cardinal Singers, students need to be enrolled in at least one high school level choir. You do not have to have dance training. There is also a crew component for those who are interested in getting involved and may be nervous of being on stage. Anyone interested in the Cardinal Singers, or being part of the crew should make sure to sign up for the summer camp and/or contact Mr. Dobbratz.

Musical

Mayville High School will produce at least one full length musical per year (most likely in the Fall), with the potential to do more if time is available. Students who wish to be part of the musical gain knowledge about the theater, the intricacies of the stage and performing, and have the chance to be reviewed and awarded by the Jerry Awards program. 

There are multiple ways to be involved in the musical.

• Stage Performer (Singing, Acting, Dancing)

• Stage Management (Backstage, and from Booth)

• Tech Crew (Lights, Sound, and Videography)

• Paint Crew

• Make Up Crew

Those wishing to be an onstage performer need to be enrolled in at least one choir. Anyone else wanting to help with a crew should show a strong work ethic and have the time/availability that lines up with the show dates. If interested, contact Mr. Dobbratz.
